Dear
Farmers Market Community,
We are excited to announce that we have found a new host for
our Certified Farmers Market,
and THERE WILL BE a market
on Sunday April 10th.
The
new location is 4 miles north of Webb Park, on the border of
Rancho Bernardo and Escondido.
Starting
this Sunday April 10th, our entire Certified Farmers Market has
been invited to share the Sikes Adobe Historical Farmstead with
Sikes Adobe Certified Farmers Market, combining our efforts,
resources, and energies to bring North San Diego Communities
everything they've come to expect from the Webb Park Certified
Farmers Market, and more.
The Sikes Adobe Farmhouse is a State
Point of Historic Interest and a City of San Diego historic site
that is being restored by the San Dieguito River Park Joint
Powers Authority to its period of significance – the period from
1869 to 1899 – which is the time period when it was occupied by
the Sikes family. From it we can learn what life was like for
the pioneer settlers in San Diego shortly after statehood. The
Farmhouse was initially restored in January 2004. In October
2007 it was burned to the ground except for the adobe walls.
Rebuilding began in August 2009. The Grand Re-Opening Ceremony
was held June 26, 2010.
We once
again have a unique and exceptional venue in which to operate
our Certified Farmers Market. Combined with the experience of
Christine Bass, who is the caretaker for the Farmstead and has
been involved in the Farmstead Certified Farmers market since
November 2010, we are ready to resume our market operations and
anticipate further expansion of the market as we begin build on the potential this collaboration presents for us all.
The market
hours will remain 10am-4pm; the Farmstead Certified Farmers
Market is revising their hours in order to best accommodate the
expectations of our current shoppers.
Additional
features of the new market environment include a rotating
availability of: pony rides, trail rides, wagon rides, and tours
of the Historic Sikes Adobe Farmstead. And don't forget our kids
jumpers!
On April
17th, the Sikes Adobe Certified Farmers Market is holding
a Spring Social, including an Easter Egg Hunt. They are making
us feel so very welcome, and the historic atmosphere is amazing;
truly a value-added contribution to our "different kind" of
Farmers Market.
After the
next 2 weeks (4/10 and 4/17) at the Sikes Adobe Farmstead, the
North San Diego
Certified Farmers Market will be closed on Easter April 24, and
will resume operations on Sunday May 1st at the Sikes Adobe

We are VERY
excited about these developments, and it can truly be said that
every cloud DOES have a silver lining. By consolidating our
Farmers Market efforts, we offer the community a bigger, better,
stronger Farmers Market - one that continues to support the
needs of the community, farmers, and vendors, and now can also
contribute to the preservation of our Local History, playing an
integral role in ensuring that treasures from our past continue
to be a source of inspiration for future generations.
Please plan on
joining us on Sunday April 10th at the Sikes Adobe Historic
Farmstead from 10am-4pm to see your old favorites, and be
introduced to new ones. 12655 Sunset Dr., Escondido, CA 92025.
We
again want to thank
the community and our Farmers, Vendors, Shoppers, and Patrons for
their outspoken support; we stand by our commitment to continue
to bring Fresh Local Produce directly to the community,
and to create a weekly experience for the benefit of the community
and the businesses that call the Farmers Market home.
